Our Mission
Welcome to Lax Wax – Your eco-friendly alternative in a sea of paraffin-based surf wax brands.
Lax Wax is a surf wax made with natural ingredients designed for surfers who want grip while keeping the ingredients clean. Our wax is made from a blend of natural ingredients, crafted to maintain performance while avoiding usage of harmful chemicals found in traditional surf wax.

Why Lax Wax Over Traditional Brands
Beloved, iconic brands like Sex Wax and Sticky Bumps played a massive role in shaping surf culture into what it is today, but we have a vision to push an eco-friendly surf wax alternative forward. Lax Wax offers a modern surf wax alternative designed to reduce harmful ingredients while still delivering the traction surfers need.
Original Formula Using Natural Ingredients
Our original formula is made with a blend of beeswax and coconut oil to deliver dependable traction without harmful chemicals. We skip synthetic fillers and focus on natural performance that works session after session.
Supreme Tackiness You Can Feel
The tree resin component in Lax Wax delivers supreme tackiness that activates as you apply, creating grip where you need it most. Our wax holds firm with a natural tackifier, keeping performance while staying eco-friendly.
Beady Texture for Extra Grip
Our beeswax base creates a naturally beady texture that forms bumps as you apply, creating a 3D surface that resists flattening. Our texture’s grip rating is comparable to big brands currently in the market, keeping your stance stable in many conditions.
Eco Values
Most surf waxes on the market today contain petroleum byproducts. Lax Wax was developed as a direct response to this problem, offering a natural, beeswax-based alternative.

Surf Wax FAQ’s
Have questions about surf wax? Find answers to the most common questions about surf wax in general below!
If you’re applying a fresh, new coat on your board from scratch, start with your clean, dry surfboard to make sure your wax applies correctly. If needed, remove old wax first. Apply a basecoat using firm, small circular motions all throughout your board until a beady texture forms, it might take a little while from scratch! The goal is to build tall, consistent bumps throughout your board to improve your grip and resist flattening during your session.
Rewaxing your board before a session is much easier and simpler; since your basecoat would already be applied, all you have to do is top off your wax coat with a topcoat bar formulated for the water temperature of the break you’re surfing. After you arrive at the beach and right before you get in the water, apply your topcoat to where you will be sitting and standing on the surfboard, it should only take a couple of minutes!
You wax a surfboard to create traction between your feet and the board’s deck. Without surf wax, the smooth surface just effectively just turns into slippery glass when wet, making it difficult to paddle, pop up, maintain balance, carve, or do anything really. Surf wax allows surfers to stay connected to their board, improving control and overall performance in the water, so make sure you choose out some good quality wax!
Surfboard wax increases friction and stick on the deck of your board, preventing your feet from sliding when the surface is wet. It creates a textured layer that helps lock your stance in place while paddling, standing, and turning. Basecoat type waxes specialize in creating hard, tall bumps on your board from scratch, while topcoat variants are specialized to further optimize your wax coat and gear it for specific water temperatures.
To remove surf wax, start by using a wax comb to scrape off as much excess wax as possible. Next, place the board in the sun briefly or use warm water to soften any remaining wax, it’ll melt very quick in a direct sun beam! Wipe the softened wax away with a cloth or paper towel, leaving the deck clean and ready for fresh wax.
If you’re looking for surf wax, you’ll usually only find it at surf shops or retail stores right on the coast. You can’t find Lax Wax in surf shops yet, but you can buy our wax directly through our online store for convenient delivery straight to your door! We offer single bars, 6-pack options, and temperature-specific waxes to match your surf conditions. While you’re in the shop, make sure to grab a T-Shirt while you’re at it!
