  1. Cameron Deubig –

This stuff works great! As a surfer and SoCal native, I love how grippy it makes my board. Plus, it’s the first wax I’ve found that’s all-natural and good for the fishes. Got mine from the Sunset Market in San Diego. Thanks Levi!

  2. Kayla –

Comparable to what’s out there on the market for sure, the bumps go crazy.

Petroleum: A Base Ingredient Of Commercialized Surf Wax

Most traditional surf wax formulas were designed purely around grip and durability, not long-term environmental impact. According to a Medium article, a study reported that surfers are responsible for adding up to 86 tons of microplastics to the ocean every year through their use of conventional surfboard wax. Many popular waxes still rely on petroleum-derived paraffin, harmful fillers, and mystery ingredients that can remain in the ocean long after your session ends. Surfing has been moving in the direction of sustainability in the modern day, however paraffin-based waxes still dominate the market.

The Foundation Of Most Surf Waxes Start With Paraffin

Most conventional surf wax bars are predominately based on paraffin. While these formulas work, paraffin is a byproduct of petroleum, which is ultimately derived from crude oil, known to be resistant to biodegrading in marine environments. At Lax Wax, we believe your base coat should be built with cleaner ingredients and a more intentional approach to surfing.

Our Types Of Surfboard Waxes

Check out our multiple varying surf wax types, individually formulated for the best grip in any conditions.

Our base coat surf wax is formulated to create a durable foundation that helps your topcoat stay grippy throughout your session. We use a beeswax blend that builds consistent bumps across your board for long-lasting traction in changing surf conditions. The result is a dependable base layer made with simple, reef-conscious ingredients instead of harsh petroleum additives. Use as a base for your top coat waxes or alone in tropical waters. Formulated for Warm to Tropical water temperatures (>78°) if used alone as a top coat.

Our cool water surf wax is formulated for dependable stickiness in cooler water breaks, where warm water wax brittles up and cold water waxes lose their structure. Intentionally balanced for cooler climates with the right combination of softness and tack for fall and spring sessions in SoCal, along with year-round use in cooler waters. Formulated for water temperatures ranging from 60°–72°F.

Our warm water surf wax is designed to hold its shape and maintain grip in hotter climates and elevated water temperatures. Whether you’re surfing tropical breaks or warm summer days in Southern California, this formula stays tacky without turning mushy. Our warm water wax is made with simple, eco-conscious ingredients to deliver reliable traction while keeping your setup cleaner. Formulated for water temperatures ranging from 68°-78° (June through October in SoCal).

Our cold water surf wax doubles up on natural tackifiers to enhance stickiness in colder conditions where many waxes harden up and become slippery. The formula is intentionally extremely soft with added tree resin to increase tackiness and improve grip during rough or chilly sessions. Try not to use it when it’s real hot out! Formulated for water temperatures ranging from 65° and below (November through May in SoCal).
